Install and pin
DownloadFullPage runs on desktop Google Chrome 116 or later on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS.
- Open the Chrome Web Store listing and click Add to Chrome. (The listing is being prepared for the chrome web store; this page will link to it once approved.)
- Click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome’s toolbar and the pin next to DownloadFullPage.
- No account is needed. To uninstall, right-click the icon › Remove from Chrome — this also deletes your local history.
Capture modes
Full page
Scrolls the page and stitches each screen into one image. Keep the tab visible; progress appears in the popup and as a percentage on the toolbar icon. Press Esc on the page or Cancel in the popup to stop — nothing is saved and the page returns to its original scroll position.
Visible area
Captures what is currently on screen at full display resolution.
Selected region
The page dims; drag a box to capture it. The box’s size is shown while dragging. The region must be within the visible part of the page. Esc cancels.
Element
Hover to highlight an element (its tag and size are shown). Use ↑ to select the enclosing element and ↓ to go back, then click or press Enter. Elements taller than the screen are captured completely by scrolling.
Ways to start a capture
- Toolbar popup
- Right-click menu: “Capture full page”, “Capture visible area”, “Select element to capture”, “Select region to capture”
- Keyboard shortcuts:
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Alt+Shift+D | Capture full page |
| Alt+Shift+V | Capture visible area |
| Alt+Shift+Y | Open screenshot history |
On a Mac, Alt is Option. Change shortcuts at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
Preview
After a capture, a preview tab opens next to the page. It shows the image with zoom in/out, fit to screen and actual size, plus the page title, URL, capture time, pixel dimensions and file size. You can rename the screenshot, download it, copy it, open the editor or delete it. If a page was very tall, a note explains that it was saved in parts; if it hit the maximum height, a note says so.
Export and file names
- PNG — lossless. Multi-part captures download as one file per part (
-part1,-part2…). - JPG — quality set in Settings (default 92%).
- PDF — Default (from Settings), A4/Letter/Legal portrait, A4 landscape, or Full image (single page). All parts are combined into one PDF. PDF content is an image, so text is not selectable.
- Copy — copies the image to the clipboard (for multi-part captures, the first part).
File names follow the pattern in Settings. Example: {domain}-{date}-{time} → example.com-2026-10-28-093145.png.
Editor
Open from the preview (Edit) or from history. Tools: select/move (V), crop (C), text (T), arrow (A), rectangle (R), ellipse (E), line (L), highlight (H), blur (B), pixelate (P), freehand (D), rotate left/right and resize. The right panel sets color (8 swatches plus a custom picker), thickness or font size, and fill for shapes. Hold Shift for straight lines and squares. Undo Ctrl+Z, redo Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y.
Save stores the edited image as a new history item. Export downloads PNG, JPG or PDF. Multi-part captures are edited one part at a time.
History and collections
Open history from the popup, the preview’s back arrow, or Alt+Shift+Y. Search by name, title or URL; double-click a name to rename; tick items to delete them in bulk or move them into a collection. The storage panel shows how much space screenshots use. Collections can be renamed or deleted (deleting a collection keeps its screenshots).
Settings reference
Open Settings from the popup’s gear icon or Chrome’s extension options.
| Setting | Default | Notes |

| Hide fixed elements after first screen | On | Prevents headers and floating buttons from repeating down the image. |
| Load lazy images first | On | Quickly scrolls the page before capturing so lazy-loaded images appear. |
| Maximum page height | 40,000 px | Stops endless pages; range 2,000–300,000 CSS pixels. |
| Mask e-mail addresses / phone numbers / password fields | Off | Covers matching content during capture. |

| Stamp page URL / capture date | Off | Adds a band with the URL and/or date/time to exports. |
| Save captures to history | On | When off, only the latest capture is kept so it can be previewed. |
| Automatically delete screenshots older than | Never | 7, 30, 90 or 365 days. |
| Theme | System | Light, dark or follow your system. |
Privacy masking
When enabled, DownloadFullPage looks for e-mail addresses and phone numbers in the page’s visible text, and for password fields, and covers them for the duration of the capture. It runs locally and the covers are removed afterwards. Pattern matching can miss unusual formats and may occasionally cover number sequences that look like phone numbers — check the result before sharing.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
activeTab | Capture the tab you are viewing, only after you start a capture. |
scripting | Run the bundled capture script that scrolls the page and restores it afterwards. |
storage | Save your settings. |
unlimitedStorage | Keep your screenshot history on your own device. |
downloads | Save PNG, JPG and PDF files where you choose. |
contextMenus | Add “Capture full page” and related items to the right-click menu. |
No host permissions are requested at install, and no remote code is loaded.
Where your data is stored
Screenshots, thumbnails, page URLs and titles, names and collections are stored in the extension’s IndexedDB inside your Chrome profile. Settings are in chrome.storage.local. Nothing is uploaded. Clearing history or uninstalling the extension deletes this data. See the privacy policy.
Limitations
- Chrome does not allow extensions to capture browser pages such as chrome:// pages and the New Tab page, the Chrome Web Store, or pages belonging to other extensions.
- Pages that change while scrolling — endless feeds, maps, animated canvases — may not stitch perfectly. Endless feeds are captured up to a maximum height you can set (40,000 CSS pixels by default).
- Content inside frames embedded from other websites is captured as it appears on screen but cannot be scrolled separately.
- Selected-region capture works within the part of the page currently visible on screen. Use element or full-page capture for larger areas.
- Keep the tab visible while a full-page capture runs; switching tabs stops the capture.
Troubleshooting
The capture buttons are greyed out
You are on a page Chrome doesn’t allow extensions to capture (chrome:// pages, New Tab, the Chrome Web Store, other extensions). Open a regular website.
“Capture stopped because you switched tabs”
Chrome only captures the visible tab. Start again and keep the tab in front until it finishes.
Parts of the page are blank
Some images load only when scrolled into view. Make sure “Load lazy images first” is on, wait for the page to finish loading, and try again.
The header appears in the middle of the image
Some sites create their header with JavaScript while scrolling. Keep “Hide fixed elements after first screen” on; if it persists, capture the section you need with element mode.
Only part of a web app was captured
DownloadFullPage captures the largest scrolling panel it finds. If an app has several, use element mode on the panel you want.
The capture stopped early on a feed
Increase Settings › Maximum page height.
“The previous capture was interrupted”
Chrome restarted the extension in the middle of a capture. The page has been restored automatically; simply capture again.
